I’m a one-issue voter.
The way I look at it, the United States national government spends most of its money on two things: 1) the military, and 2) the safety net, including Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, plus some Welfare programs.
No matter who is President, the military will get lots of money. So I look at how the two major political parties regard the safety net.
One major political party wants to keep the safety net and make it stronger. For example, it prefers to raise taxes rather than lower the benefits paid by Social Security or raise the age at which people can get Social Security.
The other major political party follows these steps: 1) Look at the deficit! 2) Let’s lower benefits! 3) Look at all this money! 4) Let’s lower taxes! 5) Repeat as many times as possible.
